Welcome to the online home of Boston-based composer Christopher Lee.
I'm an Assistant Teaching Professor of Music at The University of Massachusetts Lowell, where I also serve as a founding associate researcher on the EcoSonic Playground Project team, and the founding faculty advisor to Seven Six Records. I'm also on the music faculty of The Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and established a songwriting and recording program there in 2014.
Current projects include journal articles on The EcoSonic Playground and its potential to support social-cognitive development, effective arts integration within an immersive STEAM curriculum, and an article on Steve Reich's musical antecedents. I'm also working on developing open educational resource curriculum materials for two courses I teach at UMass Lowell on music technology and music production, and incorporating current research on contemplative pedagogy with music production.
In addition to composing, my research activities explore post-1950 music literature and pedagogy, the application of architectural theory to musical form, the influence of pre-tonal music on contemporary composers, analysis of intuitive harmonic, rhythmic and formal structures underlying the creative procedures of contemporary composers, music cognition, musical play and creativity in children, and environmental impact on creativity.
